Multiculturalism
Definition: Multiculturalism is the doctrine that several different cultures (rather than one national culture) can coexist peacefully and equitably in a single country.

As the above definition explains, multiculturalism is a mixture of different cultures. This does in fact exist in the workplace and other public or private settings. Although this exists,not many people are accepting of different cultures. Some people don't get a job because of the color of their skin. One's that do get hired often get discriminated against. It is important for us to learn about multiculturalism so that these problems do not arise. If we educate one another about different cultures, chances are people will see the true light and won't discriminate. The problem with some businesses is that the workers aren't educated about different cultures. They get used to seeing people similar to them and don't accept peoples differences. What some people fail to see is that different cultures can actually benefit a business in a variety of ways. If a business wasn't open to different cultures, word will get around and the business could lose profit. There are many businesses who share the same purposes, creating competition. If a business, for example, only hired Asian people, chances are that people of other cultures won't buy their products because they will feel discriminated. Some Asian people may not buy their products as well because they will have family and friends of that race. The business in turn will lose its profit and could go out of business in the future. A business that includes many cultures in the workplace could benefit from the many ideas that different businesses may have. For example, the business could fund a holiday that is celebrated by a culture. There are many different cultures and many different holidays. No one person knows all of these days so it would be helpful to have people of different cultures to work in a business. The business could hold an event where the holiday is celebrated. This would attract people of that culture. Many people would attend this event and the business could introduce their products. Chances are that people attending the event will tell their friends and family which will create awareness of the business.
