Managing Diversity
Definition: the state or fact of being diverse; difference; variety; a point of difference.
Businesses must include some sort of diversity in the work place. As the above definition explains, diversity is the state of being diverse or difference. This means that the business place should hire people of all shapes and sizes, cultures and religions, etc. Having a wide range of people helps a business generate amazing ideas. Including a wide variety of employees in a workplace can be a great competitive advantage to a business because people of different ethnicities, sexes, etc. would be familiar with the business creating awareness and profit. It is important to manage diversity because it ensures that people are accepting of people's differences. A business should educate it's workers about diversity so that people don't feel inferior and don't resent going into work everyday. A business can use diversity as a big advantage to their business because others will get attracted to the idea. Let's look at an example. There is business A and business B. Business A doesn't have a diverse work environment because they only hire female workers of an American background. Business B is the exact opposite; they hire people of all sexes and races. Which business would you most likely go to? For the reason of being diverse by hiring people based on the necessary qualifications for a job rather than sex and background, business B would be a lot more successful than business A because it can attract a lot more people.
