Laissez- Faire Leadership
Definition:A leadership style where the leader gives little instructions, if any, believing that their team is responsible enough to make their own decisions. .
As the above definition explains, a laissez faire type of leader assumes that their team members know what to do. Laissez faire type of leaders feel that their team members know what to do so guidance is not necessary. This could be beneficial because it can save time. This type of leadership works well in groups where people have the necessary skills and intelligence to do a task. If a group consists of members who have the necessary skills to complete a given task, the laissez faire leadership style would work. However, if a group consists of members who don't have the necessary skills to complete a task, this type of leadership would not work. For example, a group of computer scientists have a task to design a website for their company. The leader of the group would notify its members of the task but wouldn't discuss any other details. This is because the computer scientists know how to make a website and could do reasearch on their own about the company they must design the website for. This type of leadership would work well if tasks given each day are the same or similar.
